Dachshund Bio
Description:
The Dachshund is a well-balanced breed with a bold and confident head carriage and an intelligent, alert facial expression. Low to ground with a long body short legs, and a robust muscular development, its skin is elastic and pliable without excessive wrinkling. The Dachshund’s hunting spirit, good nose, loud tongue and distinctive build make him well-suited for below-ground work and for beating the bush. Its keen nose gives him an advantage over most other breeds for trailing.
History
Although Dachshunds are considered a German breed, they have been traced back to Ancient Egypt. The Dachshund has been linked to many royal families in Europe for many years, Queen Victoria being their biggest fan.
Color
Two-colored Dachshunds include black, chocolate, wild boar, gray (blue) and fawn (Isabella). The dapple (merle) pattern is expressed as lighter-colored areas contrasting with the darker base color. Sable-the sable pattern consists of a uniform dark overlay on red dogs.
BEHAVIOR
Temperament
Dachshund puppies are lively and affectionate; proud and bold. They are also tenacious and can be willful, even clownish. Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner rather than allow the opposite. Devoted to his family, some fanciers feel the long-haired variety is calmer than the other two types. The wire-haired variety is more outgoing and clown-like. All are slightly difficult to train.
